ZOO NEGARA DIGITAL PHOTO CONTEST 2006
This special thread I dedicate to my beloved Ezlynn for her encouragement, inspiration and patience throughout my wonderful hobby in photography. I also would like to extend my grateful appreciation to my Photography’s Sifu and FMDC colleagues who have contributed their ideas, guidance, knowledge and support throughout my evolvement in this hobby.
On the 6th August 2006, I was given an opportunity to participate in a Digital Photo Contest, organized by Malaysian Zoological Society and Fotopages Malaysia Digital Community (FMDC) which was held at National Zoo in Hulu Kelang (http://www.zoonegara.org.my) to evaluate my performance in photography.
The theme of this contest is “Up Close With Wildlife” which aims to highlight the beauty, diversity and uniqueness of the wilderness as well as communicate the issues and threats surrounding its existence. This Photo Contest is not just capturing pretty settings and cuddly animals; but it is a more of a way to express the necessity to preserve the environment and share the beauty of wildlife in its natural habitat.
From this contest; each participant are required to submit 3 of their best photographs. After the contest end, I was informed by the National Zoo that I have won the 3RD Prize!!
The news was really a surprise as this is my 1st attempt in entering a Digital Photo Contest. The precious image that has brought my name to be selected by the panel of judges as the winning photograph was a picture of a tiger swimming in the pond!
Note : All the winning of 3 pictures is now copyrighted to Zoo Negara Malaysia as part of their collections.

Malaysia’s First BASE Jump at Menara Kuala Lumpur. The first BASE Jump in Malaysia was Sunday, 3rd October 1999 at Menara Kuala Lumpur.
Execution of The Jump
The jumper must allow a free fall of about three seconds to clear the tower-head section before deploying their chute. From a height of 300 metres, without a parachute, it takes only 10 - 12 seconds to reach the ground.A specific area at the end of the Pedestrian Mall, which is the Bus Parking area has been targeted as the primary landing zone
The Risks Involved
The safety margin in a normal free fall exercise is 800 metres, the minimum height at which a jumper may deploy the chute safely.At the height of 300 metres, the jumper would have approximately 12 seconds to react should a problem be encountered. |
